« The diversity of subjects and styles is wide. A portrait by Van Dyck hangs next to a landscape by Corot, a “Roman Beauty” by the academic painter William Bouguereau (1825-1905) jostles a Surrealist scene by Max Ernst (1891-1976). »

« "The Museum must not become a graveyard." That sentence by Malraux is important because it expresses a fear which, unfortunately, has not been disavowed for years all over the world and not just in France. »

« The Hermitage Amsterdam, Rome's MAXXI and the Pinacothèque de Paris add a welcome burst of energy to the European art scene. »

A Thousand Year Old Original Dialogue
La Pinacothèque de Paris creates an unique permanent collection. This exhibition unveils important pieces for the first time to the public. With this presentation, la Pinacothèque de Paris offers an new vision of the History of Arts and founds the first museum whose display is based on transversality.
Thanks to private collector's loans and public institutions, la Pinacothèque de Paris displays on 800 square meters, a permanent collection made of a hundred masterpieces. The artists range from Van Dyck, Monet, or Van Gogh, to Brueghel, Rothko and Pollock.
Those paintings, come from diverse countries to the Pinacothèque for 1 to 15 years. The Collection is not fixed, it will be enriched thanks to scheduled and original installations.
Currently displayed between the two spaces hosting the Romanov and Esterházy exhibitions, it confers a harmonious rhythm to the theme of princes collectors. It almost appears as a legitimate continuance of the most important private art collections which formed the base of prestigious museums in the past.
Marc Restellini, a gifted art historian, outlines his point of view through the presentation of these exceptional works. He parts from traditional classifications by dates or movements in order to favour transverse themes. He offers the public his personal imaginary museum and turns the Pinacothèque de Paris into a cabinet of wonder, of curiosity, which was, during the Renaissance, an intimate space and the precious lair of collector's passion.
